I fell in love with finance and graduated from Indiana Wesleyan in 2014 with my bachelor’s degree in accountancy. I have been in the accounting industry for over 20 years and have worked directly for small business owners, corporations and consulting firms.
Having worked for a global CPA firm exposed me to many industries at the same time. In my opinion, it is the absolute best way to gain experience as an accountant. I got hands-on application of accounting best practices, segregation of duties, financial analysis, auditing, and accounting system setup.
But, working for a CPA firm opens your eyes to what little support there is for small businesses. I disliked the “billable hours” model with managed staff and felt our customer service wasn’t adequate. I thought we were expensive for the service we provided.
In short, I just felt I could do a much better job by myself partnering directly with the client.
I live in Mesa with my husband and teenage son. When I’m not focused on bookkeeping, I’m doing puzzles or walking outdoors – anything I can do while listening to music!
